The Crowd Farm

It’s a sad fact that the human race is more and more crowded.
Take the USA. When i was a kid in the 60′s, the population was about 190,000.
Now, it’s over 300,000.
That means that where there used to be 19 people, there are now 30.
That means crowds.
But why not capture the energy of crowds and convert it to, say, electricity?

Today’s FamilyFirst pick is from MIT, and it’s a non-technical article about thaat very subject. It’s called MIT duo sees people-powered “Crowd Farm”.
Basically, the two engineers see crowds generating electricity by the motion of plates in the floor that create power by slightly rubbing up against each other.
Imagine if you could take solace in the fact that the next crowded area you were crammed into was at least generating free electricity.
Now THAT’s thinking outside the box.
